Impact of Western Enlightenment on Contemporary Pakistani Society: An Analytical Study in the Light of Islamic Teachings The study is conducted to examine some of the important questions raised by both the religion side and the proponents of the Enlightenment movement. The purpose of this study is to interpret enlightenment in Western and Islamic context and to examine the impact of western enlightenment on contemporary Pakistani society in the light of Islamic teachings. The study was quantitative in nature. Survey was conducted to probe into the perceptions of the Pakistani people regarding impact of western enlightenment on various aspects of contemporary Pakistani society. Mix method research design was used. The sample of the study was 1000 people from four provincial headquarters of Pakistan including male and female from urban and rural areas of the provincial capitals. Stratified random sampling technique was used to select the sample of the study. Two research instruments were developed by the researcher based on review of the related literature. First was a questionnaire named WEBI, Western Enlightenment Beliefs Inventory; second was a checklist named WEKAPC, Western Enlightenment Knowledge, Attitude and Practices Checklist. Data were collected in person and from some areas with the help of research assistants. Data collected about WEBI and WEKAPC were analyzed quantitatively using SPSS. Results showed that most of the respondents were of the view that western enlightenment exerted significant influences on their thinking, lifestyles, and education, culture, media and social practices. Majority of the respondents thought that western enlightenment emphasized on tolerance, cultural harmony, equality, social justice and independent thinking. Gender-wise comparisons indicated that male respondents were more positive towards western enlightenment than the female respondents. It was recommended that Pakistani society needs to be made aware of the philosophy of western enlightenment and Islamic values which are characteristics of western enlightenment movement. Media may be used to sensitize the public that western enlightenment believes in tolerance, equality, social justice and impartiality. There is need to initiate interfaith dialogue to understand socio-cultural dynamics of a Muslim society and a western society, and further to remove hurdles for development of social and cultural harmony.
Asr-e-Hazer Aor Bain al Mazahib Ham Aahangi This world is a temporary abode where the humans are deemed as social beings. Allah Almighty has also endowed the humans with intellect and reason which has made conflict and difference of opinion inevitable among communities. In order, to resolve conflicts and guide the people to the right path prophets were sent from time to time but, the evil blood remained warm and changes were made to the divine scriptures that resulted in the formation of three major world religions. Such ideological conflicts have existed since the times of the Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW. During his lifetime the Holy Prophet left no stone unturned to guide the people to the right way i.e. Islam. He even invited them to dialogues. "SAY:O, People of the book ! Come to common terms as between us and you: That we worship none but God"(2). In the same vein, the holy Quran argues “To you be your way and to me mine"(3)"to us our deeds and to you yours"(4). Unlike the past, the Modern world is rapidly changing and is fast turning in to a global village but the tragedy remains unsolved. None of the major religions are ready to accept changes to their basic principles and modes of thinking. Coupled with this are factors that can prove fatal and lead the humans astray. In such a critical scenario it is high time to work for global peace and harmony and to look for ways and means that ensure mutual understanding, tolerance, respect for humanity and above all respect for all religions. This grand goal can be achieved through interfaith dialogues and by seeking /combining all the common features among all the major religions. Such efforts can prove a panacea for all the major social evils including fundamentalism and terrorism. This research work is an attempt to find out the similar features and to bridge the gap among religions. The work is also an endeavor to sketch and envisage a world where happiness, peace, tolerance and mutual respect reign.
Freedom of Expression in Islamic and Contemporary Western Thought: (A Comparative Study) Freedom of expression is considered as one of the most throbbing issues of the contemporary sociopolitical and socioeconomic global scenario. Accordingly, all modern constitutions, organizations and charters including, ECHR, UDHR and IDHR promote and give it much importance. However, Islamic and Western thoughts have some swear variances on this significant issue. It is observed that the modern Western thought is the representative and advocate of absolute freedom of expression. Contrary to this, Islamic thought accepts and grants freedom of speech, but binds this important right with some moral, social and religious values. Islam considers freedom of thought and expression as a fundamental human right because it appeals human sociology and nature. From an Islamic perspective, freedom of speech is not only a right but also an absolute duty of a Muslim. According to Islamic standpoint, Allah (God) grants this right of free speech due to human dignity, honor and free thinking. Moreover, Islamic concept about freedom of speech has some limits to save the society from its negative impacts, i.e. harming to others, defamation, chaos and conflict, etc. It is also noticed that the lenient international laws about religious defamation and hate speech are the basic hurdles to eradicate religious blasphemy and hatred speech. For instance, different articles of the ICCPR, UDHR and ECHR advocate maximum liberty of expression without strong limitations and reasonable interference. Therefore, these legal constraints and parameters are insufficient in this regard because the freedom of speech is unlimited and legal restrictions are either partial or nonexistent. Moreover, it is not easy to prove them on local and international forums. In spite of the presence of laws, the so-called racial discrimination and religious blasphemy have become the most dangerous and lethal weapon against minorities in the West, especially, against Islamic values and the Muslim community (Ummāh). Thus, the blasphemy of the Prophet of Islam صلى الله عليه وسلمhas becomes a fashion under the banner of freedom of speech. Lack of international laws about religious defamation is major root cause of this new trend. That is why; majority of Muslim and small number of Western scholars consider it in association with the historical rivalry between Islam and the Western world. This study presents an account of analysis on the issues of freedom of expression and speech from the contemporary Islamic and Western perspectives. This study conveys that the absolute right of freedom of speech has a strong association with religious defamation, Islamophobia and blasphemy. As well as, Modern international laws are inadequate to illuminate these hostile activities up till now. Keywords: Freedom of speech, Contemporary era, Islamic and Western thought, Comparative Study

Riaz Saeed A Case Study of Christian Study Center, Rawalpindi Thesis writer; Riaz Ahmad Department of Comparative Religion International Islamic University-Islamabad The twentieth century is considered as the most notable era for interfaith dialogue and other interreligious activities among the followers of different faiths across the globe. A number of interfaith activities were launched to bring closer, especially, the adherents of the Abrahamic faiths: Jews, Christians and Muslims. Many Christian institutes and organizations are actively involved in such activities. We cannot ignore the role of Christian Study Centers situated across the globe, which are rendering considerable services in the field of interfaith dialogue. One of them is the Christian Study Center Rawalpindi (CSC), Pakistan, which is the focal subject of this research paper. The CSC has a long journey in the course of interfaith dialogue and harmony, as it was its objective since its commencement. The CSC was established in 1967 as an extension of HMI (Henry Martyn Institute, Hyderabad India) to promote interfaith dialogue, harmony and good relationship among the followers of different faiths in Pakistan. It is conceded; the Christian Study Center Rawalpindi has provided great services and contributed a lot to interfaith dialogue, harmony and peace in Pakistan. It is also considered as a pioneer institute in the field of interfaith dialogue and social harmony. In this study the efforts are made to evaluate 40 years journey of the Christian Study Center (CSC), Rawalpindi in the field of interfaith dialogue, social harmony and peaceful coexistence from Pakistani context. In this study descriptive and analytical research methodology is adopted with mix method approach (Qualitative and Quantitative). It is perceived from the study that Christian Study Center is a representative center for interfaith dialogue and harmony in Pakistan and has most important role in promoting interfaith peace, harmony and peaceful co-existence. Moreover, it is also assumed that CSC is not only a dialogue institute but an institute having missionary activities and works for Christian’s missions in a slow pace. Due to these issues, a group of Muslim scholars has reservation and difference of opinion on this modern interfaith dialogue movement. Keywords: Interfaith dialogue, Pakistani perspective, 40 years journey, CSC dialogical activities

معاہدات نبوی کے معاشی اثرات کی روشنی میں پاکستانی نظام معیشت کا جائزہ The Economic Impacts of the Treaties of Prophet (P.B.U.H): Reviewing the Economic System of Pakistan Agreements/treaties of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be Upon Him) with different countries is considered as an important topic among other main topics of the Seerah. Agreements are considered as of great importance in the society. In this modern era, economic treaties play a vital role for ties among countries, while those countries which are not a part of these economic agreements are treated as unfamiliar or strangers. Either they are not entertained with any terms of trade or they are suppressed and forced to adopt the proposed terms. Countries do not usually possess abundant resources in which they consider themselves independent of any other nation. Therefore, development of any country critically depends upon its international interaction to get rid of any kind of economic crisis. As Islam is a religion of peace. It teaches justice and prohibits all kinds of depravation. Therefore, signing treaties for peace or international trade with the non-Muslim countries is not only permissible but is preferable keeping intact some specific requirements. The fruit of such agreements can only be enjoyed if acted according to the teachings of Prophet (P.B.U.H). In the golden age of Islam, many conditional contracts and agreements were made with the non-Muslim nations which rapidly revealed its economic impact and implications. Economic crisis was resolved, utmost standards of business ethicsix were defined including cooperation and equality. The society based on evil and cruel economic drawbacks started to move towards highly developed nations. That is why, it is necessary to investigate thoroughly the treaties and agreements made by the Prophet (P.B.U.H) and review its positive impact on the economy in order to represent the universality and integrity of Islam. In this association, the economic impacts of the treaties of Prophet (P.B.U.H): Reviewing the economic system of Pakistanis considered as the topic of the MPhil research study. In this study, according to the teachings of Seerah, the Islamic concept and way of conducting such agreements are covered. Along with the discussion on the results extracted, the importance of agreements for Pakistan’s economic system, national and international economic contracts are widely discussed. And lastly, the solution for the prevailing obstacles and hurdles in Pakistan’s economic system for adopting the Islamic way of conducting contracts are presented.
"(فتح مکہ میں آنحضرتﷺ کا دعوتی،سیاسی اور حربی کردار (عصر حاضر کےتناظر میں تجزیاتی جائزہ" The life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) as a role model for human beings encompasses all aspects of life. The Prophet Muhammad’s life is considered to be an example for all believers. In Islamic history, there are numerous events that exemplify the Prophet Muhammad’s struggles and his character. These events have played a defining role .In which, one is the conquest of Makkah. The conquest of Makkah is very important event when Mecca was freed from idolatry and conquered by Muslims. The preaching (missionary), political and war (military) role of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in the Conquest of Makkah is very important. Because of the noble character of The Holy Prophet (PBUH), Makkan tribes surrendered without much resistance, to the Army of Islam. The conquest of Makkah showed that Islam was the religion of Allah and many men and women of Quraish embraced Islam. The best role of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in The Conquest of Makkah showed the love of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) for humanity, his concern for the safety of the lives and avoid bloodshed as far as possible. The research problem is that, in Modern era Muslim faced so many preaching (missionary), political and war (military) problems. Preacher, politician and military commander solved their problems through preaching (missionary), political and war (military) role of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in the Conquest of Makkah. The objective of this thesis was to highlight the preaching (missionary), political and war (military) role of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in The Conquest of Makkah. Because the Prophetic role and strategies in The Conquest of Makkah served as noble examples for Muslim society. The method used for research was historical and analytical. Consequently, The Holy Prophet (PBUH) conquered the last and the most solid stronghold of the enemy. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) made Islam universal religion, established the government of peace and destroyed the political and military existence of Quraish in the Makkah. I hope that this work will help the human beings to solve their problems. Because the Prophet's preaching, political and war (military) role in the Conquest of Makah is a shining example for all to follow.
(اسلامی سیاست کے جدید فکری زاویے (عصرِ حاضر کے تناظر میں تحقیقی و تنقیدی مطالعہ The thesis, minutely and critically analyze the birth and evolution of modern political thoughts, their comparison with Islamic political philosophy and their compatibility with Islamic teachings of Quran and Sunnah. Along with the reasons and causes of the emergence of these modern political thoughts in West, their impacts on Muslims’ societies has also been examined. To examine and determine the reasons of Muslims’ political rise and decline, an overview of different political periods, ranging from Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) to the end of Ottoman Empire, and the current national states has been presented. In this regard, it has been noticed that during the last few decades several Muslim-majority societies have been trapped into indolence and communal confusion. Moreover, on the scholarly and intellectual levels of life their condition has become abjectly pathetic, especially in the political field. In addition, neither have they got out of the idealistic attachment to their splendid past nor are they ready to accept the lack of self-criticism. Instead, the anti-Islam elements are considered responsible for and guilty of all these blemishes. This attitude leads to radicalism in Muslims and gives birth to extremism. In such conditions an emotional and dreadful atmosphere prevails in the discussion of social and political issues. Consequently, the progressive Islamic political thought, which is a well-balanced and constructive thought, remains subdued owing to such pervert attitudes. The Islamic Political theory, its principles and rules, have firm foundations. Albeit, Pan-Islamism as a byproduct of Khilafat in its traditional form may now be regarded as a bygone ideology. It is not necessary to re-claim the same form in contemporary era. The Islamic State must commensurate with the Islamic fundamental principles and laws, irrespective of its form and appellation. If one wants to discuss the defects, errors or weaknesses of Islamic state one should put them against these irrevocable principles and formulas. Similarly, the rules and principles of Islamic state compared with the secular state should not be focused on the specific details or the partial, temporary and conventional decisions arrived at by the jurists under the exigencies of the prevailing conditions and time. A deliberate discussion has been presented in a separate chapter of the thesis narrating the political thoughts of the religious scholars and prominent intellectuals of Islam. Furthermore, it has been suggested and stressed upon the need and importance of permanent solution of political problems in contemporary Muslim societies by making collective efforts.
(مذاہب قدیمہ میں آنحضرتﷺ کا تذکرہ قرآن حکیم کے تناظر میں(تحقیقی و تقابلی جائزہ Prophet-Hood is one of the principles of Islam. The designation of prophet-hood is God given that commences right from Adam(a.s) and ends up with Muhammad (PBUH). All the prophets of Allah Almighty were sent to their nations except the last one whoes prophet-hood is universal. This is the reason that Allah Almighty has mentioned his last prophet in all revealed books by describing his personality, charactristis and other signs of his period; so that people may easily distinguish and follow him. We know that people, who believed on Torah & Gospel, and other sacred books believed that a prophet of mercy will descend with clear signs of prophet-hood. He will lead the world and guide them to the righteous path and will disclose the changes in Gospel. They also believed that the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) will reveal the prophet-hood of Jesus and confirm that Jesus is a man of Allah with bestowed miracles. There is no doubt that the Christians have made changes in this forecast and tried to mix up the correct information with false one, still the unbiased and unprejudiced study of these predictions and the good news about last prophet are not fixing to anyone other than Muhammad (S.A.W). Besides, in non-revealed books of other religions like Hinduism, Budhism etc, the name of Muhammad (PBUH), his parents, his family, his birth, migration, battels, Meraj, and many other signs of his prophacy have been clearly described. None but the only Muhammad (PBUH) can rightly own these attributes. This research work provides information regarding good news about the last Prophet of Allah, through Old & New Testaments and the sacred books of other religions of the world justified by Holy Quran. It explains how much resemblance is between traits of Holy Propher(PBUH) described in the sacred books of other religions and the Quran. Muhammad is the only common being who can bring all humanity on one point to bring peace, prosperity, brother-hood, justice and love among the individuals and nations of this world.
(حقوقِ اطفال کا عالمی چارٹر ( سی-آر-سی) (اسلامی تعلیمات کی روشنی میں جائزہ Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) Review in the Light of Islam Children are invaluable asset for the future of any nation; the children’s foremost responsibility of the society and parents; it is evident from the history that the nations higher and quality education, suitable upbringing, special care and look after are the which ignore the education, training, health and upbringing of their children will unsecure children’s future. For children’s rights, a voice had been raised in the beginning of the 91th century and many conventions were held. Evidently, the charter of the children’s protection “CRC” was declared in 9191 by General Assembly. The charter was well-supported by almost all the countries of the world. The main objective was to provide children their right without any discrimination. Pakistan has been the member of this charter but it could not show any significant contribution towards this cause. Today, the children are facing various problems in Pakistan including poverty, child labor, inappropriate health facilities, lack of education, underage marriages, children trafficking, physical and mental abuse. The present study compares the rights granted by the charter and Islam. The comparison shows that Islamic rights are more comprehensive and thorough as compared to the rights of CRC. In CRC charter both genders are given equal rights which are against the Islamic view. Islam provides children equal rights despite their color, ethnicity, country and creed. However, it does not grant equal right to them regarding their genders. Consequently, objections are raised on Islam from the West due to this disparity. For example, a boy is given a double share in inherence while a girl receives its half. This objection, on surface seems valid but Islam puts financial responsibilities on man which include the maintenance and sustenance of wife and children. On the contrary, Islam does not assign any financial liabilities to a woman so it is logical and just that financial responsibilities and rights are equal. After thorough comparison, it is evident that Islamic children rights are more comprehensive than CRC. Consequently, it is needed that government of Pakistan and the legislative bodies devise a beneficial framework for the children’s rights. All the impediments should be removed in the light of Quran and Sunnah so that the children can play a positive role in the society by growing strong and satisfied individuals.
(اسلام کے تشکیلی دور میں صلح و جنگ کے اصول اور عصر حا ضر میں ان سے استفادہ(تحقیقی و تجزیاتی مطالعہ Laws of peace and war have a prominent place among international laws. These laws came into practice in 17th century. Later in World War 1 and 2 when millions of people were killed and many more taken to prison. The importance of these laws increased many fold. However Islam introduced these laws much earlier 14th century ago to be precise. Islam altogether rejected the traditional principles of warfare of that time and it offered a new set of rules based upon moral values. On the century, present western laws are merely piece of paper and not in vogue. The slogans of human rights become meaningless when nations face confrontation.infact these wars are result on personal benefits. (The law of peace and war in the developing period of Islam) is the topic of my thesis. In the first chapter the formulative period is thoroughly introduced. Second chapter deals with the time of Holy prophet (P.B.U.H) and need and importance of the period and detailed description of the famous Ghzwaat.Third chapter is about the brief introduction of caliphate, famous wars of the time and principles derived from those wars. Last chapter deals with presently principles of war, it also tell us how we can get benefits from Islamic laws regarding peace and war in present time. In the light of Holy Quran and Sunnah the principles of peace and war are explained. Beside, these principles are explained by using authentic references from basic and secondary sources of Seerah. After studying the U.N laws regarding war, it has dawned upon me that most of these laws have an astonishing similarity with Islamic laws. But when we try to practice these laws, their flaws become obvious i.e. these laws are implemented only upon member countries. Secondly if one group violates these laws, the other group would not be bound to follow these rules. Thirdly this organization is in hands of superpowers .these superpowers are decide the destiny of underdeveloped countries. These countries control the resources of the world and play havoc with innocent human lives. The present thesis aims at: a. Bringing reforms in the U.N laws regarding peace and war. b. It can prove helpful to our Army a source of guidance to our army in the event of peace and war.
