Abstract
The thesis, minutely and critically analyze the birth and evolution of modern political thoughts, their comparison with Islamic political philosophy and their compatibility with Islamic teachings of Quran and Sunnah. Along with the reasons and causes of the emergence of these modern political thoughts in West, their impacts on Muslims’ societies has also been examined. To examine and determine the reasons of Muslims’ political rise and decline, an overview of different political periods, ranging from Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) to the end of Ottoman Empire, and the current national states has been presented. In this regard, it has been noticed that during the last few decades several Muslim-majority societies have been trapped into indolence and communal confusion. Moreover, on the scholarly and intellectual levels of life their condition has become abjectly pathetic, especially in the political field. In addition, neither have they got out of the idealistic attachment to their splendid past nor are they ready to accept the lack of self-criticism. Instead, the anti-Islam elements are considered responsible for and guilty of all these blemishes. This attitude leads to radicalism in Muslims and gives birth to extremism. In such conditions an emotional and dreadful atmosphere prevails in the discussion of social and political issues. Consequently, the progressive Islamic political thought, which is a well-balanced and constructive thought, remains subdued owing to such pervert attitudes. The Islamic Political theory, its principles and rules, have firm foundations. Albeit, Pan-Islamism as a byproduct of Khilafat in its traditional form may now be regarded as a bygone ideology. It is not necessary to re-claim the same form in contemporary era. The Islamic State must commensurate with the Islamic fundamental principles and laws, irrespective of its form and appellation. If one wants to discuss the defects, errors or weaknesses of Islamic state one should put them against these irrevocable principles and formulas. Similarly, the rules and principles of Islamic state compared with the secular state should not be focused on the specific details or the partial, temporary and conventional decisions arrived at by the jurists under the exigencies of the prevailing conditions and time. A deliberate discussion has been presented in a separate chapter of the thesis narrating the political thoughts of the religious scholars and prominent intellectuals of Islam. Furthermore, it has been suggested and stressed upon the need and importance of permanent solution of political problems in contemporary Muslim societies by making collective efforts.
