Abstract
The Social Aspect in the Novels of Fouad Qandil & Amjad Javed (A Comparative Study) The novel is a long prose narrative that describes fictional or realistic characters and events in the form of a sequential story. It is also the largest narrative genre in terms of size, diversity of characters and variety of events. It emerged in Europe as an influential literary genre in the 18th century. The writer Fouad Qandil is an Egyptian novelist who was born in Cairo on 5th October 1944 to a family belonging to the city of Banha in eastern Egypt. He received his Bachelor of Arts from the department of philosophy and psychology from Cairo University. He also worked in the Egyptian Company for acting and cinema since 1962. He was a key figure in Egypt’s literary generation of the 1960s. He left behind a legacy of twenty-one novels, almost twenty short story collections, fourteen different studies, seven children's storybooks and a few translations. His literary work attracted the critics and academic circles. His observation about social diseases were deliberated by picking his twenty-one novels related to many social challenges specifically: poverty, slavery, violence against women, social crimes, family life, love, lifestyle of the people, illiteracy, historical and political dimensions etc. He won many literary prizes including the Naguib Mahfouz Prize for best novel. He died on 3rd June 2015 at the age of 71 in Cairo. The writer Amjad Javed is a Pakistani novelist, Sufi intellectual, story writer, columnist, poet and drama writer who was born on 27 September 1965 in Hasilpur, district Bahawalpur..This thesis is divided into Preface and Three chapters. Preface: It revolves around two personalities: “Fouad Qandil and his Biography and Literary Contribution” & “Amjad Javed and his Biography and Literary Contribution”. First Chapter: "Analysis and Summary of Selected Novels of Both Novelists”. This chapter has two sections: 1st section conations three novels, selected for this study, which have been analyzed in this section and their summaries have also been provided. Besides similar sequence has followed in rest of the section. This section has analysis and summary of three selected novels of Fouad Qandil. 2nd section has analysis and summary of three selected novels of Amjad Javed: This chapter covered the elements of all selected novels of both writers inclusive of personality and conflict, time and place, language and style, dialogue and narration. And Second Chapter: “The Social Aspect in the Novels of Fouad Qandil and Amjad Javed”. This chapter has two sections: 1st section has been discussed about the social disorders pointed in Fouad Qandil’s novels. 2nd section has been discussed about the social anomalies raised in Amjed Javed’s novels. Third Chapter: “Comparison between the Social Aspects in the Novels of Both Novelists”. This chapter has two sections. 1st section described the minutes of conformity between two novelists. 2nd section discussed the seconds of contradiction between two novelists.
