Abstract
Historical Novels in Arabic & Urdu Amin Maloof and Anayat Ullah Altamash (A case study for comparison) This study examines historical novels of Arabic by Amin Maloof and Urdu novels by Anayat Ullah Altamash. The objective was to underline the similarities and differences in the narrative techniques of Maloof and Altamash in their historical novels. The method used for the research was analytical, focusing on the contrastive points with special references to events, characters/ personalities, narration dialogue and style of storytelling. Primary Sources were consulted for the research. The research found that both novelist hold a special place in the world of literature be virtue of being initiators of historical novels in Arabic and Urdu Literature respectively, they are similar in the display of events, language, narration, scene depiction and epistolary techniques while the work shows glaring disparities between them in the dialogue soliloquy, style of storytelling and theme of topics, and they tried to minimize the cultural and political downfalls of the humanity, also the aim of writing historical novels by Maloof was to rouse the humanity, he adopted a sociological concept and established self-awareness of mankind, while the aim of writing historical novels by Altamash was to rouse the Muslims of the world, who had not only been deprived of ruling but had been forced to become slaves from their earlier position of being masters, the cultural identity of Muslims was distorted, and it was an attempt to remind them of their past glory the stories of the golden past were presented. The study recommends for Arabic Literature researchers to translate the historical novels about the Subcontinent’s history, and work upon the false information presented in some historical novels about Umayyad and Abbasid periods. Keywords: Historical Novels, Amin Maloof, Anayat Ullah Altamash, Arabic Literature, Urdu Literature.
