Abstract
This research explores the intersection of literature and human rights through a focused examination of how harassment is portrayed in selected Urdu Short Stories. Drawing on the premise that literature not only reflects societal realities but also functions as a moral and ideological critique, the study investigates how Urdu fiction has responded to and represented various forms of harassment—social, psychological, sexual, and institutional—against vulnerable groups, particularly women. The study situates itself within the theoretical frameworks of human rights discourse and literary criticism, asserting that fiction can serve as a powerful tool for raising awareness, challenging oppressive norms, and advocating for justice. Through textual analysis of selected works by prominent Urdu writers, this research identifies recurring themes, narrative strategies, and character portrayals that expose the pervasive nature of harassment in both public and private spheres. The stories analysis reveals a spectrum of experiences ranging from overt abuse to subtle coercion, capturing the emotional and societal repercussions suffered by victims. The research also highlights the role of fiction in giving voice to marginalized individuals and in contesting the silence imposed by cultural taboos and patriarchal structures. In doing so, the study underscores how Urdu literature contributes meaningfully to the global conversation on human dignity, gender equity, and the right to live free from fear and humiliation. Ultimately, this work aims to bridge the gap between literary expression and socio-political activism by emphasizing the ethical responsibilities of writers and the transformative potential of fiction. The study concludes that Urdu fiction is not merely a reflection of social reality but also an active participant in the human rights struggle, offering resistance, empathy, and a vision for a more just society through the power of narrative.
