Abstract The topic of this research thesis is: “A Research and analysis of Utopian elements in the columns of 21st century”. The main objective of this research paper is to identify and search for this trend in the columns of 21st century. Utopia is known as human activity and a psychological trend also. This trend is found in both English and Urdu literature. In this perspective the purpose of selecting this topic for the present research is to critically analyse this trend in Urdu- columns in order to elaborate its relationship with society. For this purpose,main research questions have been formed as under: 1. To search utopia as a shared trend in the discipline of psychology and literature. 2. To identify the reasons working as a background for this psychological trend in the selected columnists of 21st century. 3. To apprehend their philosophy and ways of life by the presence of this trend. 4. To highlight this literary and psychological trend in individuals, literature and society respectively. As an individual of 21st century, today’s man is facing more problems than that of the past. These problems are mostly related to his inner-self. He is fighting with loneliness, strangeness and absurdity. The sole purpose of this research study is to analyse how well the columnists of 21st century have depicted their contemporary life and further to evaluate how successful they have been in the realistic depiction of their society. In this way, it will be found out how they have escaped from present dystopia and in this process finally how successful they are in creating an ideal society with the help of escapism and utopian-trends. Basically the nature of this research is not quantitative and statistical one. Keeping this fact in mind, all columns of selected columnists written in the 21st century will be critically evaluated and analysed. So qualitative research methodology along with descriptive method will be applied in this research. After collection and compilation of relevant research materials, analytical research methodology will be also applied. Further, research questions will be ix addressed by the help of documentary research method. To make this research absolute, reliable and authentic, related columnist will be approached to get their personal views about the topic. Authentic critical books from libraries will also be consulted to make research findings more fruitful.
