Abstract This study mainly deals with the language register of official Urdu used by the Revenue department. Language today used by Revenue department has impact of language dating back to nearly one and a half century. This language is different from daily life language. Various changes have been noticed in this language register with the passage of time and arrival of new technologies but a lot is still required to make it easy for present society. There is limited body of research on linguistic register in Urdu language, while much work has been done on it in English language. Present thesis consists of four chapters. First chapter entails the introduction and basic discussions of the subject while the second chapter identifies the terms and jargons present in published forms used by revenue department. Third chapter deals with identification of terms and jargons present in handwritten texts of revenue department. Fourth chapter caters the linguistic analysis of the terms and jargons present in official Urdu of Revenue department. It also includes a review of new, extinct and substitute words used in this language register.
