Abstract
This research delves into the complex social, economic, and psychological challenges faced by the transgender community, with a particular focus on the systemic discrimination they encounter based on their gender identity. The study examines the fundamental rights that are often denied to transgender individuals, which perpetuates their marginalization in society. Through an analysis of selected dramas, the research sheds light on the stereotypical perceptions, gender discrimination, and societal exclusion that transgender people face. These dramas serve as a lens to understand the multifaceted issues within the transgender community, ranging from access to education and employment to the right to a dignified existence. The study highlights the discrepancy between the on-screen portrayal of these issues and the harsh realities faced by transgender individuals in real life. Key areas of focus include the transgender community's struggle for recognition and acceptance in society, the challenges they face in securing education and employment, and their experiences of verbal and physical abuse. The research also explores the deep-rooted stigma and discrimination that hinder their access to basic rights, such as housing and healthcare, which further exacerbates their vulnerability to exploitation and abuse. By drawing on Émile Durkheim’s theory of social facts, the research contextualizes the societal attitudes and behaviors that contribute to the continued marginalization of transgender individuals. The findings suggest that the lack of recognition and protection of their rights not only leads to social and economic exclusion but also contributes to severe psychological distress, manifesting in anxiety, confusion, and in extreme cases, self-harm or suicide. Ultimately, the study calls for a more compassionate and inclusive approach towards the transgender community, advocating for systemic changes that ensure their rights and dignity are upheld in all aspects of life. It emphasizes the need for greater awareness, education, and legal reforms to address the inequalities faced by transgender individuals, thereby fostering a more just and equitable society.
