Abstract
The topic of my Ph.D. thesis is literature and crimes. It is a critical analysis of motivation and causes for crimes in Urdu Novel. Urdu Novels have also depicted crimes being done in the society similar to English Novels. This study investigates urdu crime novel, a genre in which the writers expose the crime of different characters who play a detrimental role in a society. It also studies the relation between novel and crime and how the selected writers define the social, moral, political, economic and war crimes. This research spans over a period of thirty years in the field of urdu crime fiction and investigates novel from 1987 till 2020. Novels like Janglous-1987, Qaid-1989 and Ghulam Bagh-2006 expose the social crimes that crush our social development. In the Novels Al-Asifa-2006, Dhani Bukhsh Kay Baitay-2008 and Neeli Bar-2017, writers criticise the fudal systems as an economic disease. Novels Kanjri Ka Pull-2006, Nurak-2007, and Habs-2013 show that the moral crimes are dangerous for our society. Novel Killa Jangi-2002 and Char Darwesh Aik Kachwa-2008, Burf-2013 and Judge Sahib-2019 is about the terrorism and war crimes that are against our National development. Using the theoretical lenses about illiteracy and poverty by theorists, Lloyed Ohlin and Richard Cloward, this research investigates the repercussions of criminal behaviour. This study attempts to foreground the importance of bringing awareness about socio-economic and moral crimes through literary writings. Urdu Fiction writers always exposes the original condition of society like crime and blood sheds, street crimes and white Collar crimes. xiii Among many other findings, this study shows that white collar crimes under political patronage has crippled the economy of Pakistan. My suggestions in short stories of our fiction writers focus the crime in our society. The crimes that our Urdu fiction writers have portrayed can also be the subject of a PhD.
