Abstract
This study delves into the evolution of idiomatic expressions in Pakistan, tracing their transformation from traditional terrestrial elements to encompass modern influences such as technology and globalization. The traditional idiom, rooted in terrestrial elements like civilization, agriculture, and natural environment, reflects the ethos of the past. In contrast, the current idiom incorporates diverse elements like technology and global village translation, mirroring the contemporary landscape. A crucial aspect shaping the evolution of idioms in Pakistan is the linguistic diversity of its populace. Urdu, the national language, is not the mother tongue for the majority, leading to significant influences from native or regional languages. This linguistic amalgamation infuses Urdu idioms with rich cultural nuances, creating a dynamic linguistic tapestry. Furthermore, the study explores the dynamics between obsolete and contemporary idioms. Obsolete idioms, disconnected from societal relevance, fade into obscurity over time. Conversely, idioms reflecting contemporary trends and societal values quickly gain acceptance, showcasing the fluid nature of language evolution. The research employs a mixed-method approach, combining qualitative analysis of idiomatic expressions with sociolinguistic insights. Data collection involves literature review, interviews, and observation of linguistic trends in contemporary discourse. Analysis of collected data unveils patterns of linguistic adaptation and societal reflection embedded within idiomatic expressions. Understanding the evolution of idioms in Pakistan offers valuable insights into broader societal shifts and cultural dynamics. It sheds light on the intricate interplay between language, culture, and societal evolution, providing a nuanced understanding of Pakistan's linguistic landscape.
