Abstract The term "Magical realism" translated as “Jadowi Haqiqat” in Urdu is a modern technique in novel.Hwan Rulfo, for the first time, used it in his novels. Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s novel, “One Hundred Years of Solitude”, is the first demonstration of thistechnique.In Urdu literature, many a writer such as Qurahtul-Ainn-Haider, Dr. Muhammad Ahsen Farooqi, Shamasur Rehman Farooqi, Mustanser Hussain Tarrar , Dr.Waheed Ahmad, Akhtar Raza Saleemi and Syed Kashif Raza has made effective use of this technique in their fictional works. As socio-political scenery since the inception of Pakistan has undergone drastic change, so has the case with writing techniques used for their representation.New methods, approaches and techniques have become effective tools of narratology in world literature. The Latin novelist Gabriel Garcia Marquez by using the technique of "Magical Realism" in his novel“One Hundred Years of Solitude” in 1967, revolutionized the style of narration all over the world, and Urdu Literature is no exception especially in the first half of twentieth century characterized by the use of various descriptive techniques like letters, diaries, flash backs, flash forwards,surrealism and realism etc.Magical Realism is one of such powerful techniques. The first chapter intends to clarify the origin, upbringing, definitions and background of Magical Realism. It also deals with the analysis of and motives of the technique.The impressions and effects of magical realism upon Urdu Novels have also been critically discussed. In second chapter, supernatural machinery and exaggerative elements have been discussed with reference to the novels, "Aagkadarya", " Chandani beghum " and "Sangum".. The third chapter presents comparative analysis of novels“Bahao" and "Muntaq ul taeer,Jadeed by Mustansir HussainTarar and the novel"zino" by Dr.Waheed Ahmad regarding the use Magical Realism technique. The Forth chapter deals with the comparative analysis from the view point of the use of Magical Realism in the novels, "Qabaz-e-Zaman" by Shamasur Rehman Farooqi,and"Jagay hein khawab mein" by Akhtar Raza Salemi along with " Chaar Darwesh and Ek khachwa" by Syed Kashif Raza. The fifth and final chapter ends the work with manifestation of outcomes, references and citations of resources.
