Abstract
Mecca is the most sacred city in Islam. The city of Mecca and its vicinity has historical and religious significance to the Muslims who number 1.9 around the world. Mecca is not only the house of Allah but it is the birth of Prophet Muhammad. Kaaba is also situated in mecca in masjid-e- haram. Muslims pray 5 times a day facing toward Kaaba in Mecca. They also bury their deadbodies. Facing toward Kaaba. This direction is called Qibla in Arabic. Thus, mecca is spiritual pivotal for the Muslims. My topic is: ”THE IMAGE OF MECCA IN ARABIC AND URDU POETRY IN NINETEENTH CENTURY” .I divided my research into 4 chapters as well as several sub chapters or parts. Chapter-1 is about “Mecca in modern Arabic poetry” this chapter is further divided into two parts. First is related to Arabic poetry about Mecca while second is related to the brief description of famous poets and their poetry. Chapter-2 is about “Mecca in Urdu poetry” this chapter is also divided into two sub chapters or parts. First is related to “Mecca in Urdu poetry” while second is about “famous Urdu poets and their poetry about mecca”. Chapter-3 is relates the style and way of description of Mecca in Arabic and Urdu poetry. This chapter is further divided into two sub chapters or parts. In first part, the style and way of description of Mecca in Arabic poetry has been discussed while in second part same has been described but in Urdu poetry. In the last chapter, chapter-4, comparative study of description of Mecca in poetry in Arabic language and Urdu language has been made. In first part, similarities in both the languages have been sorted out while in the second part dissimilarities have been studied. In this way, this study will help to understand place of Mecca in the sight of Arabic and Urdu poetry in 19th century
