Abstract
Poetry & Feminism: Research Study of Prose Poems of selected Poetesses. . In different societies women were treated badly, they face so many difficulties to get the rights equal to men. A woman didn’t have her own identity; she was recognized as a daughter, wife, mother or sister. Different civilizations use different methods to insult women and make her ashamed of herself. Women had faced brutal behaviors for so long and to raise the voice against all these brutal acts different women organization were introduced, As a result women starts raising voice for their rights. Women rights organization was an organization which fought for the rights of women equal to men and their individual thoughts and decisions. Women education and training got attention and for this purpose special training and education centers were made. Some men also talk about the rights of women and got the title of feminist. The basic aim of these organizations is not to raise differences and hate but only to help the women to have their rights. The movement of Feminism was started from the west. The main aim of this movement was to fight against gender stereotypes and to protect the rights of the women so that the woman could be independent and free to take her decisions, she should not be interrupted or stopped by her father, brother or husband. In the result of this western movement women start getting their rights gradually. Women’s education, jobs, domestic, social and personal issues were discussed due to which on international platformwomen’s right were discussed so that women could be treated equally in the society. Women got to know about their right and they started to raise their voices by the power of the pen. In the west Virginia woolf and Simone de Beauvoir wrote about the problems of women. The journels like “Taleem-e-Naswaan” and “Tehzeeb-e-Naswaan” played an important role to wake the consciousnessin women about their rights. In novels and fictional stories writers also wrote about the problems of women and how they faced Coercion and exploitation. Asmat Chugtai, Hajra Masroor, Qurat-ul-ain Haider and Bano Qudsia wrote about the social and individual issues of women. x In poetesses Ada Jafri, Fehmeeda Riaz, Kishwar Naheed and Parveen Shakir have the glimpse of feminism in their poetry, there is touch of eastern cultural and somewhere rebel thoughts of feminism in their poetry. Fehmeeda and Kishwar Naheed openly discussed the issues of women in their poetry. Kiswar Naheed did unforgettable work for feminism; she brought the aspects of a woman’s life like body, self-realization, and baseless interruptions into attention. The poems of Azra Abaas, Najma Mansoor, Sidra Sehr Imran and Aarifa Shahzad depict the problems of domestic women, prostitutes and young girls. These poetesses express the sense of feminism and its conditions in their prose poetry. A woman can truly explain the feelings and emotions of other woman. In their poetry we can see pain of a woman’s unfulfilled desires, the prick of the pieces of their crashed dreams, the issues faced by them in the society, exploitation and their lost identity. Moreover it is also discussed that now women are so sensible they are raising their voices for their rights, the busy routine of woman is also discussed as by getting busy in the house chores she forget her dreams and now she is so much caged by work of home but she wants to fly with her dreams because her unfulfilled dreams gives her so much pain so that’s why she is struggling to fulfill her dream. We can also see the struggle for freedom in the poems of all these poetesses. When women examine their surroundings then they decide to break the restraints applied on them because they don’t want to be in the part of this suffocated environment anymore. She can’t and don’t want to take the responsibility of all moral values all alone and starts the journey of self-realization. Conclusion: My research concludes the following points. 1. By explaining the concept of feminism it is told that how much cruel acts and injustice women had been facing. 2. Pain, suffering, affliction and helplessness of women can be seen clearly in the poems of Azra Abbas, Najma Mansoor, Sidra Sehar Imran and Aarifa Shahzad. 3. In the poems of all poetesses we can see the protesting behavior, somewhere its light and sometimes it gets so strong. 4. There is the voice of feminism in the poetry of these poetesses, they have observed and discussed all the aspects of women’s life beautifully.
