Abstract Title: Portrayal of Social Complexities through Humor and Irony In Urdu Poetry, irony and humour has been adopted as a technique to highlight various issues. This thesis is specifically related to the poetry that encompasses marital relationship and its complexities. Since independence of Pakistan, various Urdu poets have portrayed this marital relationship in the background and of various events. Through the techniques of irony and humour, the poets depicts ups and down and joys and sorrows of this relationship. In this regards, this topic is of great importance. To create humours is a very difficult task. Through irony and humour, the writers point out inequalities and complexities of a society. In the same way in humour and ironic poetry, the poets have portrayed marital relationship in connection with other relationship along with economic and social transformation. The poet have madethis topic interesting through their unique style of writing. For research various methods were adopted, documents were collected and libraries were consulted. The topic of research was discussed with literacy personalities , A questioner was also prepared. More over internet was used to research the topic various journal and research articles were explored to get the relevant material for the thesis.
