Abstract This research is about “Methods of Moon sighting in Muslim Countries (Comparative studies of moonrise)”. Time is an important aspect of life. Our religion Islam also tells us the importance of time as many Ibadaat depends on it. For the last 1442 years, the Muslim year starts with the observing of moonrise for the same land in which sighting is held. But due to the vast expansion of civilization and different aerial atmospheres, the problem of moon sighting become a global issue for Muslims because the visual and vision of the moon differ from place to place and the method of moon sighting differs from country to country. Sometimes even in the same country we can find followers of multiple religious belief disagreeing with each other regarding the problem of moon sighting. Defining the causes for the adoption of different methods of moon sighting according to the Islamic commands is the key discussion of this thesis. In this research the fundamentals of Islamic commands regarding the methods of moon sighting which is adopted by some major Islamic countries is discussed. Different lunar phases and the Comparison of contemporary methods which are used by Muslim observers with in the selected Muslim countries will be discussed. There is a lack of collaboration of modern methods for determining the birth of the moon and actual sighting, to fill this gap the scientific ruling about the moon evolution is elaborated. The birth of the new moon is different in different aerial atmospheres. With the help of scientific methods, the birth of new moon can be estimated using different trigonometric assessments and satellite readings which helps in the actual sighting of the moon. Some countries like Indonesia only use the scientific method for the estimation of new moon but there are some countries which uses these estimation method to help them in physical sighting of the moon in a very optimized way which leads other countries to follow them in starting their lunar month
