Abstract Bano Qudsia is a prominent Pakistani playwright, novelist and short story writer. In her literary life, that spanned over four decades, she has explored multiple social, psychological, spiritual and cultural issues. "Hasil Ghat", a novel published by her in 2003, depicts her deep understanding of the diverse cultural issues of the East and the West. Narrated through the main character "Humayun Fareed" this novel tells the story of a Pakistani emigrant in America who, after coming back to Pakistan, compares the social and cultural lives of the two societies. Through this novel Bano Qudsia has highlighted the cultural contrasts and diversities of a new and an old world. Though Bano Qudsia's has used multiple platforms to show her literary genius but this thesis entitled as "A critical analysis of Pakistani and American cultural identities as depicted in novel 'Hasil Ghat" has explored only her novels for background study. While analyzing "Hasil Ghat" this research work has focused mainly on the divergent cultural identities of Pakistani and American way of livings and not on the thematic, artistic or stylistic study of the novel as general. Using primary as well as secondary sources this study delves deep into the cultural and civilizational contrasts of the two intrinsically different worlds and comes up with some thought provoking social and cultural lessons. Cultural and civilizational study of American and Pakistani societies through the enticing prism of fiction is a distinctive feature of Bano Qudsia and by studying "Hasil Ghat" this work explores this distinctiveness of the writer. This study, in general, has studied the fictional perspective of a conservative Pakistani society and a modern American world.
