Abstract The M.Phil. Urdu research thesis is “A study of the characteristics of Syed Zubair Shah’s short stories. Only two stories (Khoof Kay Qutbay & Yagh Basta Dahleez) have been discussed here. These books were published in 2011 and 2017. The purpose of this research is to study the others thought and thinking about human life which was presented through characters in his short stories. They have unique identities. All characters (male, female and symbolic) helped in understanding of their social psychological background and cultural identities. The research has been divided into five chapters. The first chapter includes the title landscape (History of Fiction in the province of KPK). In the first chapter the origin of Urdu fiction in Khyber Pakhtun Khua has been described. After that discussion has been about current writers of short stories of KPK. In the last portion of first chapter, Syed Zubair Shah and his contributions in Urdu fiction have been discussed. A second chapter is titled A Study of Female Characters. This chapter has been divided further two sections. Each section is again divided into more sub sections to discuss each female character of every short story. This chapter also includes the study of Socio-Psychological perspective of female characters and tries to find a relation between these two philosophies. The third chapter’s is title (A Study of Male Characters). This chapter has been divided into two sections where each section is again divided into more sub sections to discuss each male character of every short story. A study has been made about social and psychological perspective. This chapter also discusses the influence of society on social and psychological status of characters. The forth chapter title is (A study of Symbolic Characters). In this chapter discussion launched under the previous study that have been made in chapter two and three. In the fifth chapter an overall analysis has been made. This chapter is based on a comprehensive study Conclusions and recommendations are reduced as a result of the overview of the discussion in the first four chapters, reaching a summary and compilation of a few suggestions at the end.
