Abstract Dr. Anwar Sadeed is one of the notable writers who contributed a great deal towards the advancement of Urdu literature. His literary contribution can never be underestimated. He is adept at all genres of literature and his input in the field of poetry, short story, essay, translation and journalism are stupendous. This thesis comprises of five chapters. In the first chapter, explanation of key terms, research methodology, introductory information and in-depth study of Anwar Sadeed’s life, times and works are discussed in detail. The second chapter focuses on his short stories in relation to content and form. Especially, the oriental aspect of his fiction is brought to the fore with an emphasis on the rural backdrop of his writings. Characterization, themes, situations and other aspects are explored. The third chapter focuses on his non-fiction writings like travelogues, essays, sketches, analytical writings, columns, and translations. His travelogues are not just reporting rather contain a form of knowledge enriched with the experiences and observations of the writer. In his essays, he comments on social inequalities without becoming a rabid castigator. He has also introduced a new style in profile and personality writings as they glow with a personal warmth and colour. He has brought out the nuances of the personalities of notable literary figures of his time. His analytical prose has a flavour of its own and reveals a mind that can dwell on rational and philosophical issues as aptly as he could on emotional ones. His writings reveal that he takes his profession very seriously and aspires to cultivate a poised and balanced approach. Because of his varied and vast study, his columns are also full of wit and wisdom. In chapter 4, his poetic themes and techniques are critically evaluated. His method and skills earned him a unique place among his contemporary poets. In the fifth chapter, findings and recommendations are given.
