Abstract The thesis is ”The elements of comedy in Urdu sketch writing in Pakistan” (Research and critical analysis) is related with an important part of non-fictional prose. In this thesis four important sketch-writers have been selected, in whose sketches elements of comedy and its different techniques are present, and these are: 1-Sa’adat Hassan Manto. 2- Zameer Jafri. 3- Mushtaq Ahmed Yousufi. 4- Ata-ul-Haq Qasmi. The start of this thesis comprises over two main sections and discusses definition and elements of sketchwriting and its tradition along with technical properties and necessities of sketch writing and comedy. I discussed the different prospects and ingredients of comedy in sketch of selected profilists. Sketches, personal habits and personal characters are studied in the light of this topic, with the help of which this conclusion can be made that very rare examples of these are found in sketches of selected profilists because it is a difficult task and to fulfill its needs and demand is a senior job. In this thesis an overview and critical elements of comedy present in sketch-writing on which political and social behaviors are based. In this chapter I try to find out the social and political interests of profilist, on the basis of which one beable to create such comedy. Because topic of belletrist and writers are embodiment of the society and they are responsible for the civic and social behaviors. I have also discussed a very important for comparison of selected profilists. From different allusions, despite of being unique between dianoetic and subjective, we found resemblances in some matters. Every profilist has its own way of writing. There is a specific base of comedian elements in its writing and there is conflict found in its subjective level. There is also a comparison between those two illustration (dianoetic and subjective) in this reserch. The last part of my research comprises over collection, assessment, correlation and suggestions. These two correlations are also explained here which are obtained during this research. In the light of these conclusions I put my commendations in front of scholars in researchable fields as well.
