Abstract New historicism is a post-modern critical theory which aims to understand history through literature and literarture through its cultural context. New historicism looks at literature in wider historical context, examining both how the writer’s times, in turn recognizing that current cultural contexts colour that critic’s conclusion. The main focus is to look at the elements outside the work instead of just reading the text, thus it also influences other. This thesis is a new historicist analysis of Asad Muhammad Khan’s short stories. Asad Muhammad Khan is renowed urdu poet and short story writer. He has highlighted through historical and cultural concepts that human history and civilization is in decline. This thesis seeks to look at the short stories of Asad Muhammad Khan in the context of the new historicism. It is an analysis of short stories in the light of new historicism which emphasizes the historicity of text by relating it to the configuration of power, society or ideology in the given time. He rejects the differences between high and low class. He raised voice against social injustices and political situation. His fiction needs to be analyse in the light of modern western ideas. Since the Subject of reseach was new historicism in Asad Muhammad Khan’s short stories Publications on the subject have been collected, arrange, studied and analyzed. This thesis will be helpful in the context of new historicism in Urdu fiction.
